BOOSTER'S PROJECT NEARS COMPLETION
Long Awaited Cougar Baseball Facility Nears The Finish Line

The new Lakeville South facility is valued at $47,000 when completed.

The long awaited Cougar Baseball Boosters press box facility is in the final legs of completion. After over three years of planning and setbacks, and one year of building, the project is moving into the final phase. With the help of over 30 very benevolent businesses the boosters have been blessed with invaluable and generous donations, as well as great support in bringing this much needed project to fruition for the Lakeville South baseball program.

Left to complete as the project winds down:

  • Finish first floor tile grouting
  • Interior wood trim work
  • Press box furniture

The project was to be finished in winter. A request was made by the school in January asking if all work could wait until the spring melt due to the plowing issues in opening the road. The alumni boosters were forced to abide by the school's wishes. The road to the project is not part of their normal duties and the school couldn't plow it. Unfortunately Spring is the start of the busy season for contractors, so this in effect caused major scheduling issues for the project's completion. The boosters have now had to patiently wait for contractor availability in a horrible economy. We are deeply sorry if this has been perceived as an inconvenience for those waiting to use the new facility. We sincerely hope that parents would understand. It is a volunteer effort of professionals and they are committed to giving the school the best possible work for free. The facility will open as soon as all work is completed to city and state health code.

This project would not have been possible for the school or District 194 within the current budget constraints, and most especially in a horribly down economy. The boosters thank all of our wonderful donators and supporters for their tremendous help and partnership in this project. Thank you for sticking with us and for honoring your invaluable contributions, despite the economic hardship for all. These companies all have their hearts in the right place and should be forever recognized for their contribution to LSHS and the South baseball program.

DAY 54: PRESS BOX CARPETING INSTALLED
Hertaus Floors Come Through For South Cougar Baseball

The press box carpet looks absolutely great in cardinal red.

The press box flooring is officially completed and looks beautiful. Ron Hertaus of Hertaus Floors stopped in bright and early on Thursday morning and did the entire floor on his own. The floor was covered in a durable indoor-outdoor carpet in cardinal red with flecks of black so as to hold up better and not show dirt. The carpet also adds an acoustic dampening to the room to alleviate echo and give it a much fuller sound for announcing and for the occasional radio broadcasts that will take place there. The Cougar alumni boosters thank Ron and Lisa Hertaus very much for their wonderful contribution to our project. If you are in need of carpet for your home or business, please give the folks at Hertaus Floors a call for great prices and the best professional installation. Call 952-469-5123. Thank you Hertaus Floors!

DAY 53: LOWER RAILING FINISHED; PILLARS WRAPPED
Concession Stand Railing Is Complete And Stair Pillars Are Upgraded

Another step closer to completion. The lower concession stand railing has finally been built and is in place. Rather than wait for contractors to make it back to finish, the boosters have stepped up to finish portions of the project on their own. The lower railing serves one primary function, as a overly excessive door-stop. The winds often blow hard at the South baseball fields and pull quite hard on the door when it is open. A door return was deemed not acceptable as the wind would have literally pulled it from the door or severely damaged it as a result of the strong wind force. So a simple railing was built to act as a doorstop, while also adding an aesthetic quality and matching look with the existing stair railing.

A concession door railing was constructed to act as a door-stop in heavy wind.

The 6x6 support posts for the upper press box landing were not the best looking, with large chunks missing and gouges in them, so they were wrapped in cedar for a beautiful finished look that upgrades their appearance tremendously.

The 6x6 green treated pillars have been wrapped with a nice cedar casing.

DAY 52: SOUND SYSTEM INSTALLED IN PRESS BOX
PA System Amp Much More Powerful Than Previous System; Music Rocks

The sound system for the new facility is a definite upgrade from the old portable amp used for the first five years. A 150w per channel powered mixer has been installed that will give fans a better audio experience while attending games. The music is louder and can be heard everywhere in the ballpark. The PA setup will also be more robust as a result giving a loud and clear address system for Cougar games.

With 150w per channel, the press box sound system is ready to rock.

DAY 51: INTERIOR PAINTING IS COMPLETED
Cougar Colors Provide Color Splash For Press Box / Concession Stand

With the painting crew pulling out after the school's request to delay the project during the winter, the boosters had to finish the job on their own. At long last that portion of the project is now  completed. The interior colors are cardinal red on the east and west walls, with the north and south walls being Vegas gold. The ceiling is also gold to give it the lighter color. The upper and lower floors need to be finished, as well as the fancy trim work for the baseboards, windows and doors. The boosters have had to be patient in waiting for the professionals to free up time to get back into the facility. With their work being voluntarily donated, the boosters understand the contractor's need to take care of paying business first in this historic down economy.

Concession stand painting is finished. The east and south walls are shown.

Press box interior painting is complete. The east and south walls are shown.

DAY 50: COUNTERTOP INSTALLATION IS FINISHED
Hoffman's Countertops Comes Through For Lakeville South Baseball

(L-R) Pat Thompson, Derek Pfannenstein and Andy McKinley.

The countertops are officially in and look beautiful. Jeff Hoffman and his crew stopped in on Wednesday for the installation work. They were quick and extremely efficient in getting the job done right, with professional craftsmanship. The first step was to pre-measure the walls the week before, using a state of the art laser to note every nook and cranny of the sheetrock. Then it was off to the shop for a custom cut using their computer aided cutting machine. On Wednesday it was time to install. The end result was a precision fit, matching any swales in the wall perfectly. Special thanks to Jeff and Julie Hoffman, Adam Edwards, Derek Pfannenstein, Pat Thompson and Andy McKinley for their outstanding contribution to this project. Absolutely beautiful work gang! If your family or your business is ever in need of custom countertops, the great folks at Hoffman's are the people to call for a professional install and a quality finish. Give them a call at 952-469-6616 for the best in quality countertops.

DAY 49: COUNTERTOP PREPARATION COMPLETE
Designed Cabinets Completes Framing For Countertop Installation

Bill Prior works on the framing structure in preparation for the countertops..

The project is on its final legs as Designed Cabinets was able to come in and finish off the countertop framing on Wednesday. Now the folks at Hoffman's Countertops will be able to have a support system to install the countertops on. The project should hopefully move along pretty quick now.

North and west wall framing is complete.

Special thanks to Jeff Baron for coming through with the support framing, as well as Jim Kettinger who built the framing. Thanks also to cabinet veteran Billy Prior for the installation work. Very much appreciated guys. A job well done!

South and west wall framing is complete.

DAY 48: APPLIANCES DELIVERED
Warners' Stellian Keeps It Cold For Baseball

Warners' Stellian was one of the first to donate to the project when it began.

One of the first donations made to the boosters ended up being one of the last to be installed, as the appliances were finally delivered to the new baseball facility. Jeffrey Warner of Warners' Stellian was one of the first to buy into the project early on with a big heart for helping a worthwhile community endeavor. Warners' Stellian donated three major appliances to the new facility back in 2006, however setbacks in the project kept the facility from becoming a reality until ground was broken on April 29th, 2009.

Warners' Stellian went above and beyond the call of duty by actually donating some larger appliances than expected. The facility will have separate refrigerators, the larger refrigerator is for beverages and the smaller refrigerator is strictly for food product. The chest freezer is for storage of perishable items.

The alumni Cougar Baseball Boosters thank Mr. Warner and all the great people at Warners' Stellian. Their support means everything to our school and our baseball program. If you should ever need new kitchen appliances for your home, the place to go is Warners' Stellian in Apple Valley. Please consider giving them your support as a show of thanks for their help in supporting our children and our community. Thank you again Warners' Stellian!

DAY 47: LOWER WINDOW RAIN-GUARDS INSTALLED
Pro Fab Builds Extra Rain Protection For Lower Flip Up Windows

As a precaution against a hard driving rain, the folks at Pro Fab have designed a simple rain-guard for over the top of each lower flip-up window, to keep rain water from getting behind the window seal. The new rain-guards are made of sturdy aluminum and were powder-coated with a white finish to match the trim. The folks at Pro Fab also manufactured a special prop-up tool for help in opening the metal flip-up windows. Many thanks to Ben Stuber and Randy Slagel at Pro Fab for all the great work. Much appreciated guys.

DAY 46: CABINETRY FINISHED
Designed Cabinets Finishes Cabinet And Cupboard Installation

The cabinetry has been completed for the new baseball facility and looks great. The cabinets are a deep cherry tone with gold accent trim and brushed metal hardware.

The alumni Cougar Baseball Boosters wish to extend our thanks to Jim Kettinger, Mike Spencer, Billy Prior and Justin Winsor from Designed Cabinets for their help in getting things installed. A special thanks to company owner Jeff Baron for his gracious donation for this much needed facility. We very much appreciate his tremendous support in this project.

If you're ever in need of new cabinetry, please think of the good folks at Designed Cabinets in Lakeville and help show our Cougar thanks for their generous support.

DAY 44: INTERIOR ELECTRICAL DEVICING INSTALLED
ColliSys Adds Lighting, Electrical Outlets And Switches

Keith Habeck works hard on his Saturday off to add electrical fixtures.

The good folks at ColliSys were back to handle the electrical devicing for the project, with ace electrician Keith Habeck doing some Saturday weekend work to add the interior electrical fixtures. The facility now has lighting, outlets and switches as the project nears its final stages. Special thanks to Mr. Habeck and Collins Electrical Systems (ColliSys) for the invaluable help and contribution to this much need project for Lakeville South baseball.

First floor lighting shines brightly.

Second floor lighting looking good.

DAY 43: PRESS BOX HANDRAILS COMPLETE
Mark Johnson Construction Handles Railing Issue

There was one exterior task yet to complete before the weather gets ugly, that of installing dual hand-rails for the press box stairway. Mark Johnson was kind enough to donate his time and effort to completing this safety issue to meet city code.

Mark Johnson of MJ Trimming Inc., finishes the remaining railing work.

The outside railing work completes the exterior schedule.

IVERSON NAMED NEW COUGAR BASEBALL COACH
Former Apple Valley Head Coach Will Lead Team For 2011 Season

Lakeville South has named Apple Valley High School coach Al Iverson as the new head coach for Cougar baseball. Iverson was previously head coach at Apple Valley High School where they were Lake Conference Champions in 2002, 2004 and 2007. They won the state championship in 2006. Iverson took over the program in 2001 and only had two down years as he guided the Eagles to winning seasons in seven out of his nine years as head coach there. (See coaching record below)

Iverson played his high school ball at Oak Lawn Community High School in Illinois as a catcher. From there he attended Luther College in Iowa. He served as the JV assistant there in 1988. From there he moved on to become an assistant coach at Decorah through the '89 season. He then took a year off in 1990 and was later married in 1991. He guided the Lakeville Legion team that same summer of '91. The next year he was an assistant for Rosemount in the spring of 92. In 1993, Al came to Lakeville and was an integral cog in coach Zeise's program, acting as head JV baseball coach and also as the Panthers pitching coach. He was part of the state runner-up season in 2000 before moving on to become head coach at Apple Valley in 2001.

Iverson resides in Lakeville and also teaches here at Lakeview Elementary. He is married to wife Sigrid and has two daughters and two sons. He is a true baseball fanatic and loves White Sox baseball. His favorite saying is, "Eat a little dirt to get to the ball." He brings with him a history of developing players as well as a tenacious attitude for winning baseball.

Welcome to Cougar baseball Coach Iverson!

NEW FACILITY WILL HAVE CUSTOM SIGN
New Sign Will Commemorate The Beginning Of Cougar Baseball In 2006

One of the awaited new pieces for the baseball press box facility will be the addition of a new sign to adorn the building and also commemorate the beginning of South Cougar Baseball and the first season in 2006. Dan Gust of ActionPlus Signs in Apple Valley has been kind enough to donate his time and services to produce a sign designed by the alumni baseball boosters which will hang on the North face of the press box and be visible to all who come to the field. Many thanks to Dan and the folks at ActionPlus Signs for the beautiful donation to the new facility.

EFFORT UNDERWAY TO SAVE 9B SPORTS
Pro Wrestling Event Set For May 1st At LSHS

It's no secret that ISD 194 has been struggling financially for years now, ever since Lakeville voters refused to support a levy that would have funded our schools, our most precious community resource. That myopic vote has hurt tremendously, with over 100 teachers lost and many classes cut, all in such an affluent community. Now it appears that the future of 9B sports is in serious jeopardy for 2011, unless funding can be found before then.

Organizers have put together a special event that is sure to be a big draw and wonderful fundraiser for both schools. A night of WWE Steel Domain Wrestling has been put together with the hopes of raising $14,000 to save 9B sports. The big event will feature AWA Tag team champions Greg Gagne and Jim Brunzell, as well as national TV stars, Magnus WWE’s Bam Neely, Ring of Honor stars Jerry Lynn, Austin Aries, Lenny Lane, among many others.

The event be held at Lakeville South on Saturday night, May 1st at 7:30.

Advance tickets are reasonably priced at $10 for adults and $5 for students (K-12). Tickets at the door on the night of the event will be $12.

Tickets are on sale all week at the both LSHS and LNHS..

Tickets can also be purchased online at the following sites:

www.sdwonline.com | www.cougarboosters.org |  www.pantherboosters.org

See the attached flyer for more information.

Please help us promote this special night by telling friends and family. All proceeds benefit both LSHS and LNHS, but most especially, it benefits our kids.

ST. PAUL SAINTS PURCHASE BLUE CHIP ACADEMY

(1) batting practice warm up stations
(2) grass infield for infield & fly ball practice.

DONATORS' APPRECIATION NIGHT HELD
School Recognizes Companies That Made Concession Stand Possible

Special thanks to all the great Cougar baseball families for their loyal support on donator appreciation night for the very costly new concession stand and press box facility. The venture has come from the pockets of those hurting the most during this economic downturn, the building and construction industry. With over 1,200 laborers out of work in Minnesota alone, in an industry hit quite hard by the economy, it was nice to see the turnout of those who cared the most in thanking these valued supporters for such a wonderful gift to the program. After many school announcements and numerous reminders during the South-North Elko baseball game, as well as publication on this website, it was remarkable to see the thanks put forth from the Cougar faithful. Thank you all for your thoughtful support.

This was not intended as a booster night, it was solely for the companies who made this project possible and those who were on hand easily recognized the night's true focus, our generous benefactors. We cannot say enough about these companies.

Again, thanks to all the families who made the extra effort to be there to show their Cougar appreciation. It truly was a testament to the loyalty of many for Cougar baseball and this much needed project. The depth of appreciation was certainly hard to miss. Special props to the loyal fans of Cougar nation.

True to his character and good sportsmanship, football coach Larry Thompson showed his usual great class by actually being on hand in a show of support to thank the companies that were represented. Coach Zeise and the varsity team are also to be commended for personally thanking each company member in attendance for their efforts in supporting our program. Thank you very much guys! We cannot begin to show our appreciation for a building that has now soared to well over $30,000 with materials and union labor costs. Your efforts were very much appreciated.

SAINTS SPORTS ACADEMY IS NEIGHBOR FOR SOUTH
Multi-Sport Training Facility Is Two Blocks From South High School

The Saints Sports Academy is open in Lakeville and it's just a home run or two from the South High School, at 9913 214th street West. The 72,000 square foot sports facility, called Train America, actually houses many sports training related companies other than just the Saints Sports Academy, such as, Wear Out The Net, Sports Mechanics Analysis, Match Point Tennis Center, Perpetual Motion, and the Center for Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation, run by the Mayo Clinic.

LaMar Rogers is joined in the venture by General Manager Jaeson Hall, Director of Operations Torrion Amie, and Events Planner Trent Seaman, as well as a number of qualified instructors with 55 years of combined experience.

The Saints Sports Academy has over 14 hitting stations with numerous pitching machines for both baseball and softball. The facility also has a video analysis section where a player's mechanics are filmed, then broken down and studied. There is even a dual bullpen, complete with a red clay mound for the pitchers.

One of the main features of the multi-million dollar Saints Sports Academy is a huge 18,000 square foot basement, with a towering ceiling and enough room for an entire infield, with over 50 square yards of artificial turf to play on.

It was a last minute offer to Cougar baseball to run concessions for the first Cougar football game, but somehow once again the good folks from Cougar Nation arose to help save the day and make it all work. COUGAR BASEBALL DOES CORN FOR PAN-O-PROG
Baseball Boosters Secure Booth For Lucrative Annual Event

Cougar baseball families pitch in to raise money for the baseball program.

After being shut out of the 2007 Pan-O-Prog event, the Cougar Baseball Boosters made it a priority to gain admittance to the annual Lakeville Pan-O-Prog celebration. This year their efforts were successful as the boosters were awarded the corn booth to help raise money for Cougar baseball. With the invaluable support from Cougar Nation and its baseball families, the boosters were able to raise $3,000 to put towards the new concession stand project for Cougar Field.

A hearty Cougar thank you to all those who helped during a hectic weekend that included baseball tournaments at every level. Thanks to Heather Walker, Linda Buermann, Rosie Novak, Kathy Erikson,  Jeff & Roxanne Zelmer, Tim & Lynn McNamee (and friends), Pat Steele Sr., and Laura Adelmann, as well as boosters Randy Sleeper and Paul & Cindy St. Martin.

Thanks also to Jeff West and Toro for the extremely useful and convenient concession vehicles. We couldn't have done any of it without the support of these fine people and their companies.

We sincerely hope that South baseball families will recognize these generous Lakeville merchants with their continued support throughout the year.

Coordinator John Maher in one of the three Toro concession vehicles.

With the help of these very generous supporters, the boosters were able to make $3,000 in total sales during the weekend. After concession expenses, all profits will go towards Cougar field improvements. Thanks to all those who helped make this event a big success for Cougar baseball.

The event raised over $1,000 for Cougar baseball and will be applied towards the labor for the building of the new baseball concession stand. The Cougar Baseball Boosters have raised over $5,000 to date through concessions and special events. All money raised goes back into infrastructure needs for the Cougar teams and players.

Stahl Construction has agreed to sign on to help with the concession stand / press box facility.
